Using "Find Caches"

When do I use Find Caches?

The Find Caches option allows you to find the exact caches that you want. It will allow you find caches near an address, a zip code, and intersection, or even your current GPS Location.

What is the difference between Find Caches and Quick Cache?

When you select Find Caches > Near Me, you are doing a search that is very similar to the Quick Cache, but there are differences. Right off the bat, the Find Caches will be different in that it will show you all types of caches, whereas Quick Cache only shows Traditional caches. If we explore deeper, we can see that we can also change the how far away we look for caches, how many caches we get, and what types of caches to return. The Quick Cache option is for people who don't want to think about all these details.

How To Use Find Caches
Launch Geocache Navigator.
If this is your first time launching the application you will be prompted to accept the terms of use, and choose a PIN. The PIN number you choose will be used in the future to connect your phone up to your geocaching.com account so you can easily log what caches you have found from your phone.
This screen is the Main Menu. From the main menu you can do a number of things. This tutorial is on how to use Find Caches, so that's all we'll cover here. To use Find Caches, simply press OK when you have Find Caches selected.
You can now select what type of search you want to do. You can find caches that are around you, around other locations, or if you know a cache code you can enter it.
  • Near Me will use your current Location.
  • Near Addreess will bring you to a screen to enter the address
  • Near Intersection will bring you to a sceen to enter the intersection
  • In Zip will prompt you for a zip code
  • By Cache Code will prompt you for a cache code
  • Near Location will prompt you for the Lat/Lng to search around. (this will probably not be used often)

Once you select your seach type, and enter the needed data, the next step will be to fine tune your search criteria. Here you can change the distance you want to consider, the types that you are interested in, and the number of caches to return.

Once you are satisfied, select "Find Them!" to run the search.

The application will then use your cellular data network to get the cahces that meet the criteria you have specified.
Once the application finishes, you will be shown a list of caches that are in your immediate area. This list will show the type, name, distance, and direction to the cache.
Select one of these caches, and you will begin navigation. You will come to a page with a compass, and a number of other tabs, which you will be able to access using the left and right arrows.

Whats the next step?

Now that you've selected a cache, the next step is to use the Geocache Navigator to find it. For a tutorial on how to find a cache using the Geocache Navigator
