Help with 2 issues: Map / Radar
Greetings,

1)
I am wondering how is it I get GCN to scroll along with me while using street view in the maps tab. The reason being, in order to read street names, I need to zoom in. If I zoom in to my current position, the map does not scroll with me and I need to scroll it along manually. This is very annoying, which makes getting within an area of a cache, very tedious. What am I missing?

2)
In radar view, the tutorials etc mention that a 'path' is marked of where you have been. I can see the 'crosshairs/brown circle' over my position marker indicating direction , however, I can not see any brown dots / path markers, at any time, using radar view. Does this need to be turned on manually? This was a huge plus for me, as I tend to wander circles when I am not seeing a cache / this would help me identify trails.

Cheers
C

Re: Help with 2 issues: Map / Radar
I'm sorry. I use the radar screen and have never seen anything but that little pointer and the crosshairs. Of course I also never read the tutorials either. The hardest thing I ever have to deal with on the radar screen is knowing which way to move. It would be really great if there could be a N, S, W, and E on the 4 corners :o)

As far as the map scrolling along with you, I know what you mean, but that could be pretty battery and data intensive. There would have to be some kind of auto update function written so that if your little travel arrow was approaching the perimeter of the displayed map that it would automatically download the next chunk of map and redisplay everything. I would suspect there would be some kind of delay because while it's downloading all that map data the phone may not have enough resources to keep the GPS updating at full speed, keep the pointer in the right place, etc... Since I don't work for them and am not familiar with developing on that platform I'm not sure how easy it would be to do vs a one-time request to display a map. The battery is already being drained to keep the GPS running, and if you start going after this volume of data it could have an impact on performance.

You'll have to wait for Kevin or Bob or someone else from Trimble to see this and comment, but I'm guessing it's a major chunk of development!

Re: Help with 2 issues: Map / Radar

Yea scrolling would be nice,  there is many improvements they could make, but i do find myself using the app every day more then other apps i have, i like the user interface.

I have no issues with my battery, i have a extended battery and i also carry a backup battery fully charged with me, along with a car charger! lol

i leave GCN running in background the whole time in case i want to do a quick cache.

One thing i noticed with the maps is if you bring up a map then back out of it to look at the cache info or what ever, then go back into the map, you have to reselect the map background that you want again, this is fairly annoying that they should fix.
