Normally subscriptions are subscribed to the device as long as you use the device. We are aware things can happen; phones can be damaged and replaced along with upgrading the phone itself. Please contact us directly (support@trimbleoutdoors.com) when this happens and we will gladly work with you to get your new device up and running.

Hi testman, all future updates (that is, new versions with bugfixes and minor enhancements) will be free. Instructions for deleting the old version and installing a new version may be different, so I can't give you a universal answer here. Let us know if this does not answer your question. Thanks.
